What to Know About Benzyl Benzoate


 


The benzyl benzoate is actually a synthetic compound that is generated from benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid. It is harmful to the ectoparasites such as Pthirus pubis, P. humanus corporis, Pediculus humanus capitis and Sarcoptes scabiei hominis. This medication is utilized to treat pediculosis and scabies on the head, body and even in the pubic area. The contraindications for using benzyl benzoate is hypersensitivity to the drug itself. And this medication must not be applied to broken skin or acutely inflamed areas. Also, this medicine like in gelatin capsules can be used safely during pregnancy. It has side effects such as stinging or burning sensation of the skin which is the most common. And if there is overdosage of the drug, then gastric lavage maybe beneficial if this is taken a couple of hours of accidental ingestion. And if convulsions take place, then they must be treated using IV diazepam. Treatment is just supportive unless persistence of symptoms take place. And for proper storage of benzyl benzoate, the lotion must be stored in well closed containers in order to protect it from sunlight and keep it functional.
